Corrections policy: report an error

Not a substitute for the advice of an attorney. The Employer Desk is general information. Laws vary by state and change; check the official source or talk to a licensed attorney in your state. Terms of use

In short

Tell us what looks wrong. We review every report within 48 hours, re-check the rule against its official sources, and fix confirmed errors. Every confirmed correction is logged, with its date, in the changelog of that state's rulebook.

General information, not legal advice. This page is for general information only and isn’t legal, financial or tax advice. Laws vary by state and change; check the official source or talk to a qualified professional about your situation. Every rule on this page links to its official source.

What happens next

  1. Reviewed within 48 hours. Every report is read and checked within 48 hours of arriving.
  2. Re-checked against the official sources. We fetch the official pages the rule is based on again and check that the quoted text is still there and still says what the rule says (see how we verify every rule).
  3. Confirmed errors are fixed. If the rule no longer matches its sources, it is taken off the Desk (shown as "not verified yet", with a link to the official source) until it is corrected and passes the checks again. Template errors are corrected in the template.
  4. Logged in public. Each confirmed correction is logged with its date in the changelog of the state's rulebook. The log never includes your message, name or email.
  5. If the rule is right. If the official sources still support the rule, it stays as it is. If you left an email, we reply with the source we checked.

What we cannot do

We cannot advise you on your own situation, and a report does not create an attorney-client relationship. The Desk is general information and not a substitute for the advice of an attorney; for a specific case, talk to a licensed attorney in your state. See our terms of use.

What we keep

We store the page address, the state and topic you chose, your message and, only if you give it, your email, for 12 months. We do not store your IP address with the report. Details are in our privacy policy. To have a report deleted earlier, email [email protected].
